Residential Solar Panel Installation in Edmonton

Rooftop systems sized to the power your household uses in a year, built for snow and hail, with the micro-generation paperwork filed for you and the payback year in writing.

Rooftop Solar for Edmonton Homes

There is no city rebate for solar in Edmonton any more, and the federal Greener Homes Loan has closed. Solar still pays here, for two reasons that have nothing to do with grants. Alberta credits the power you send back to the grid at your retail energy rate, and Edmonton’s June days run to seventeen hours of daylight.

Alberta’s micro-generation rules expect a home system to be sized to the electricity the home uses in a year. So we start with twelve months of your bills, not the size of your roof. A typical EPCOR household uses about 7,200 kWh a year, which works out to roughly a 6–7 kW system.

Home systems start from about $11,900 installed, and most Edmonton family homes land between $17,000 and $28,000. Before you sign, you get the system size, month-by-month output, cost, financing options and payback year in writing.

Call 250-250-2525 and we can usually tell you in one short call whether your roof is worth a closer look.

What’s included

What a Home Installation Includes

Sizing to your annual use

We size from a year of bills, because the micro-generation rules expect it and because overbuilding just exports power at the energy rate. If an EV or heat pump is coming, we plan for it now.

Roof survey: planes, pitch, shade, age

Every usable plane is measured and shade-modelled through the seasons. Mature elms and spruce, neighbouring two-storeys and chimneys all count. We also note how many winters your shingles have left.

Panels and racking for snow and hail

Tier-one all-black panels with tempered glass rated for hail, racking and attachments specified for Edmonton snow loads, and a layout that lets snow slide off the lower edge.

Licensed electrical work

Licensed electricians do all wiring. Many 1970s and 80s homes in Mill Woods, Castle Downs and Clareview have 100-amp panels. If yours needs an upgrade, it is in the quote, not a surprise.

Micro-generation paperwork

We prepare and file the micro-generation application with your wire owner, EPCOR in Edmonton or FortisAlberta in most surrounding towns, and pull the permits. Nothing is switched on until it is approved.

Commissioning and walkthrough

Inspection, switch-on and a walkthrough of your monitoring app, plus a plain explanation of how your retailer credits exports and whether a solar-club plan suits you.

Why us

Why Edmonton Homeowners Call Us

No rebate in the numbers

Our payback figures assume no grant, because none is open. If one returns, it is a bonus, not the reason the numbers work.

Sized to your bills

We follow the micro-generation sizing rule and your real use, so you aren’t paying for panels that only export.

Honest no’s

A north-facing roof, a heavy elm canopy or a small bill? We will tell you, even if it costs us the job.

Battery-ready from day one

We fit inverters that can take a battery later, so summer storms don’t mean starting over.

The Edmonton sun year

Why the retail plan matters as much as the panels

At 53.5° north, Edmonton gets about seventeen hours of daylight in June and seven and a half in December. A solar array here makes most of its year’s energy between April and September, and very little in the weeks around Christmas.

Alberta pays for that pattern well. Exports are credited at your retail energy rate, and seasonal solar-club plans let you sit on a high rate (around 30¢/kWh) while you are exporting all summer, then switch to a low rate (around 7¢) for the winter, when you buy more than you make.

We help you pick a plan at switch-on, and remind you when it is time to switch in the fall. Solar club plans explained

The Edmonton sun year: monthly solar output vs household use Bar chart. A 7 kilowatt system in Edmonton produces about 8,050 kilowatt-hours a year: about 1047 in July and 201 in December. A home using 8,000 kilowatt-hours a year, shown as a line, uses the most in winter. From April to September production is higher than use, and on a solar-club plan those months are credited at about 30 cents. From October to March the home buys more than it makes, at about 7 cents. summer rate ~30¢~7¢~7¢03006009001,200 JFMAMJJASOND kWh per month · 7 kW system Solar output Home use (8,000 kWh/yr)
Edmonton solar is a summer business. About 69% of a year’s output arrives April–September, when a solar-club plan credits exports at ~30¢. In winter you buy more than you make, on the low ~7¢ rate.

Process

How a Home Install Runs

  1. Assessment

Twelve months of bills, your roof planes and shade, and your electrical panel. Most of it is done by phone and satellite imagery before anyone visits.

You learn whether solar suits your roof at all.

  2. Design & quote

System size, month-by-month output, cost, financing and payback year, in writing with the assumptions shown. Battery options priced alongside.

A written quote you can compare line by line.

  3. Approval, then install

We file the micro-generation application with your wire owner and pull permits. Once approved, our team and vetted contractor partners install, usually in one to three days.

Nothing goes on your roof before it is approved.

  4. Switch-on

Inspection, meter work by your wire owner and commissioning. We show you the monitoring app and help you choose a retail plan that credits your exports well.

A working system and a plan that pays you properly.

On-site work usually takes one to three days. Wire-owner approval and permits take longer than the install, so allow four to eight weeks from signing to switch-on. Spring bookings fill first.

Have these ready

  • A year of power bills or the “kWh used” line from each. Twelve months tells us more than anything else.
  • Your address, so we can check roof direction, pitch and shade on satellite imagery.
  • A photo of your electrical panel with the door open. It shows whether an upgrade is needed.
  • Plans for an EV, heat pump, hot tub or garage suite, so the system is sized for them.
