Home Battery Backup & Solar Storage in Edmonton

Summer thunderstorms, winter equipment failures, a car into a pole down the block. A battery keeps your furnace fan, sump pump, fridge and internet running until the power comes back.

Battery Backup for Edmonton Homes

Edmonton’s grid is reliable most of the year, but outages are common enough that “power outage Edmonton” is searched more than ten thousand times a month. July thunderstorms bring down poplar branches across back-lane lines, equipment fails in heat waves and cold snaps, animals get into substations, and vehicles hit poles.

In winter an outage is more than an inconvenience. A gas furnace can’t run without power for its blower and controls, sump pumps stop during spring melt, and freezers start to warm.

Most people don’t realise this until the first outage: a normal grid-tied solar system switches off when the grid goes down. It has to, so it never sends power onto a line crews are working on. Add a battery and the right inverter, and the house disconnects from the grid by itself and keeps your chosen circuits running on stored power.

There is no battery rebate in Alberta. A battery is a resilience purchase, and we price it that way: you see the cost of backing up essential circuits next to whole-home backup, and decide what the peace of mind is worth.

Call 250-250-2525 and tell us what you have now. We add batteries to new systems and to existing ones, including systems we didn’t install.

What’s included

What Battery Backup Includes

Backup load planning

Backing up the whole house is costly and rarely needed. We pick the circuits that must stay on: furnace blower, sump pump, fridge, freezer, internet, some lights, medical equipment.

Capacity and runtime

Sized for how long you want to ride through. You see the price of one night of essentials next to two or three days.

Hybrid or AC-coupled

New systems usually use a hybrid inverter. With existing solar we normally AC-couple the battery, so working equipment stays in place.

Automatic islanding

The system separates from the grid and keeps your backup circuits running with nothing for you to do, set up to your wire owner’s requirements.

Cold-aware placement

Batteries go in the garage, basement or utility room where temperatures suit them, never on an unheated exterior wall facing a January night.

Monitoring and outage mode

Charge level, solar in and household load out on your phone, with an alert when the grid drops.

Pricing

Battery Backup Costs

SystemSuitsInstalled cost
Essential circuitsFurnace blower, sump pump, fridge, lights, internet$13,000 – $18,000
Whole-home backupFull panel backed up, larger capacity$19,000 – $28,000
Battery added to existing solarAC-coupled retrofit$12,000 – $22,000

No provincial or utility battery rebate is available in Alberta as of October 2026. Capacity and how much of the panel you back up decide where you land. Financing available.

An honest note on payback. Batteries rarely pay for themselves on energy savings alone in Alberta, because exports are already credited at your retail energy rate. People buy them for resilience: a furnace that keeps running in January, a sump pump that keeps running in April, and a home office that stays online. That is a good reason, and we won’t pretend it is an investment.

Why us

Why People Choose Us for Backup

Load first, battery second

Getting the circuit list right keeps the price down. Most homes need less capacity than they think.

Straight talk on payback

A battery is mostly a resilience purchase, and we tell you so.

Retrofits welcome

We add storage to existing arrays, including ones other companies installed.

Winter-tested thinking

Furnace blowers, sump pumps and cold garages are the first things we ask about.

When the power goes out

Why Edmonton homes add backup

A battery covers the gap automatically. In January that means the furnace blower keeps running; in April, the sump pump. You choose the circuits, we size the battery to them.

Process

How a Battery Project Runs

  1. Outage conversation

What has to stay on, and for how long.

  2. Electrical review

Your panel, any existing solar, and how the system will island.

  3. Options priced

Essential circuits vs whole-home, one night vs several days.

  4. Install and outage test

We cut the grid on purpose so you can watch the backup take over.

Have these ready

  • A year of power bills or the “kWh used” line from each. Twelve months tells us more than anything else.
  • Your address, so we can check roof direction, pitch and shade on satellite imagery.
  • A photo of your electrical panel with the door open. It shows whether an upgrade is needed.
  • Plans for an EV, heat pump, hot tub or garage suite, so the system is sized for them.
